A new Willie Nelson song plays. Then Mom realizes she wrote the song years ago

“Age is just a number” – We all know the saying, but is the meaning of the phrase really understood? The meaning depends on the context of course, but overall, I believe it means to not restrict yourself based on age. After all, we only have one life to live, so why not make the most of it?
Lyndel Rhodes, a 92-year-old woman featured in an absolutely charming video below, is a perfect example of this.
At age 92, Lyndel Rhodes wrote the song, “Little House on the Hill.” It was inspired by her home town of Lexington, Tennessee. Completing the song was already an impressive feat in itself, as many songwriters will agree. But then Lyndel’s son, Buddy Cannon, took it one step further.
As a music producer, Buddy emailed a copy of the song to country legend Willie Nelson himself.
Upon hearing it, Willie wrote back, “I love it. Let’s do it.”
With those words, Lyndel Rhodes earned her big break.
As promised, Willie lent his vocals to the tune, and the song was fully produced. Buddy Cannon decided to record his mother listening to the song for the first time, and a picture (or video, in this case) really speaks a thousand words.
She thoughtfully processes the music as it begins to play, answering her son’s prompting questions such as, “What are you listening to?”, “Who’s song is that?”, “Who’s singing it?”, etc.
And as the song goes on, she begins to adorably tap along to the beat. You can tell she’s really getting into the song – her own song – and when her son Buddy encourages her to sing along, she does so in the sweetest, delicate voice.
The end of the video is too heartwarming to describe. I definitely recommend seeing it for yourself.
Lyndel serves as a wonderful reminder that you’re never too old to follow through with your dreams. Her genuine reaction is one-of-a-kind and so touching. You can see her excitement build up as the song goes on throughout the video.
Her humility is down-to-earth and reminds us to be thankful for even the little things, while at the same time, never giving up on your dreams and passions. If a 92-year-old woman can see her dreams realized, surely you too can embark on an ambition and see it through. Anything is possible, especially with a little help along the way.
Music is timeless, and now, Lyndel will live on forever in the tune. A honorable reward, and based on the video, well-deserving as well. Congratulations Lyndel, you earned it!
